Her Environmental Platform:
Environment for All
We depend on the balance of the Earth’s clean air and water, healthy soil, and stable climate. We have a shared responsibility to protect the planet and our people, but for too long, fossil fuel corporations and CEOs have dumped toxins into Black, Brown, Indigenous and poor communities, paying off politicians and lobbyists to hide their harm. By coming together across race and class, we can follow the lead of directly impacted communities to shape real solutions so that North Carolina families can be healthy.
Whether we live in the mountains or by the beaches, the farmlands or the dunes, together we will heal the damage done by corporate greed to stop the climate crisis. Community-led solar and wind will replace gas and coal so that we are resilient to climate disaster and can keep each other safe. Together we will transform our economy with green union jobs and community care that ensures we not only survive, but thrive, for generations to come.
End the Duke Energy Monopoly: Duke Energy provides electricity to over 90% of people in North Carolina and is the largest investor owned electric utility in the United States. Duke Energy operates as a monopoly in North Carolina and routinely blocks community solar projects and energy efficiency programs while building out unnecessary new fossil fuel infrastructure. We must change the regulatory structure to break Duke Energy’s monopoly by allowing for competition and third party solar sales. Allowing third party solar sales would open the door for other companies to compete with Duke Energy and will enable residences, community organizations and small businesses to afford solar through on-bill financing.
No New Fossil Fuel Infrastructure: We need an immediate and permanent moratorium on all new fossil fuel infrastructure including fracked natural gas power plants, pipelines, storage facilities, offshore drilling operations and seismic blasting. Building any new fossil fuel infrastructure in the state of North Carolina would lock our state into decades of more climate-wrecking greenhouse gas emissions and would put frontline communities in further immediate and long term danger. We cannot build any new fossil fuel infrastructure in the state of North Carolina.
